I agree Stempniak should not be on the list because he will probably be traded by the deadline.

Flames are rebuilding so the quality of roster will be low for the next couple of years.

You should not laugh considering it looks like instead of Montreal doing a proper rebuild, they look to be trying to buy their way out of the mess they are in. Most of the time when owners do this all they get is a couple of years of playoff hockey with no shot at the cup.

All Flames fans know that this team will be brutal for at least a couple more years but at least we're finally on the right track

I agree Stempniak should not be on the list because he will probably be traded by the deadline.

Flames are rebuilding so the quality of roster will be low for the next couple of years.

You should not laugh considering it looks like instead of Montreal doing a proper rebuild, they look to be trying to buy their way out of the mess they are in. Most of the time when owners do this all they get is a couple of years of playoff hockey with no shot at the cup.

How ironic is it that a Flames fan is telling me about committing to a rebuild. Try giving ol' Jay a call. Heck, maybe give him a call a couple years ago too, when he inherited a team in hockey hell. Congrats on your 6th overall pick. Flames rebuild happening 3 years too late.

Don't know what hockey hell is? It's where the Flames have lived for years now. Not good enough to make the playoffs, not bad enough to draft inside the top 10. Fortunately this year it looks like the Flames are a 'can't miss' top 3 draft team.

As far as Montreal buying their way out of it? Out of what? Buying what? A team can rebuild on the fly when it has expiring bad contracts, a 25 year old superstar goaltender and a 24 year old norris winner.

Without having watched a ton of Flames games, is Giordano in the same mold as Jason Smith?

personally id go with 4 a's. and see who steps up the most this year, mid season name a captain or next year if he has earned it

Gio should be captain. Maybe GLencross as a possible captain.

Glencross, yeah sometimes his emotions get the better of him but I would rather have that than a captain who mails it in like the last one in recent years

I think they should go with just Alternate Captains for a couple of years until one one of the young guys establishes themselves.

Likely Monahan, was a young captain in Ottawa and seems very mature, cut from the Captain Serious mold.

Glencross and Gio will be gone before this team competes for a playoff spot and the young guys should be the leaders.

Gio or GlenX would be good choices imo. Or just run 3-4 alternatives for a couple of seasons until someone sticks out above the rest

Not at all. Gio is mobile and reliable. He lack offensive flair but makes up for it with decent puck control and solid defensive play.

Yes, because Edmonton is the only team to rebuild by drafting high 2 or 3 years in a row.

They don't have a top 3 forward on the team, arguably don't have a top 2 D Man, the goalie is a crap shoot (although I suspect he will do well).

I think part of Edmonton's problem is that they gave massive contracts to the kids, and filled around them with 3rd line role players. So basically, they put all of their egss in the kids basket. They could have used a player like Briere or B. Richards, a guy who's been around a while and has had past success, to help carry a part of the load.
